From the sun-soaked shores of Montego Bay, Jamaica, to the global runways of high fashion and the demanding halls of law school, Suzanna (Zan) Hyde is a shining example of the power of vision, resilience, and faith. As an international fashion model and a Juris Doctor student, Zan’s journey has been nothing short of extraordinary.
In a vibrant Zoom interview with VBD Magazine, Zan’s authenticity and passion illuminated every moment as she candidly shared the milestones, challenges, and inspirations that have defined her path. Her story not only shows how she balances two demanding careers with grace and determination but also highlights her commitment to defying expectations and staying true to her values. Zan’s journey demonstrates the possibilities that arise when talent meets purpose, and her inspiring story offers valuable insights for anyone striving to make their dreams a reality.
FOUNDATIONS OF SUCCESS
Growing up in Montego Bay, Zan attended Mount Alvernia Prep and High School, where her mother, a dedicated educator, instilled the values of discipline and excellence. “I was heavily involved in speech and drama, track and field, and karate. My mom kept us very busy,” she shared. Among her early achievements, Zan won a national award in speech and drama in Grade 6 (middle school) and served as a child ambassador for Jamaica’s Office of the Children’s Registry, where she passionately advocated against child abuse.

Reflecting on her childhood, Zan credits these early experiences for laying the groundwork for her success. “Looking back, I realize that God was preparing me for greater things. Every opportunity seemed to align perfectly, and I see now how they all fit together.”
STEPPING INTO THE SPOTLIGHT
Zan Hyde’s journey into the world of fashion began with a moment that felt almost divinely orchestrated. “I was always inspired by women like Lisa Hanna, Yendi Phillipps, Kaci Fennell, and Davina Bennett—women who proudly represented Jamaica on the global stage,” she shared. “One day, when I was in high school, I told my mom I wanted to try modeling.”
Not long after that conversation, fate stepped in. Pulse Modeling Agency visited her school, and an unexpected opportunity arose. “My principal, Stacy Reynolds, introduced me to the Pulse team and asked me to take them around the school. I couldn’t believe it—it felt like a move of God. Of course, the rest is history.”
Determined to pursue her passion, Zan entered the Pulse Caribbean Model Search competition in 2019, ultimately securing second place. “I didn’t win the international contract I wanted, but I didn’t give up,” she said. Instead, she remained focused, balancing her modeling aspirations with her academic goals. After high school, she attended Howard University, her “dream school,” where she earned a degree in political science with a minor in theatre arts.

Zan’s persistence paid off. She has since graced the pages of Harper’s Bazaar and walked for prestigious fashion houses such as Louis Vuitton, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Rick Owens. Today, she is signed with Elite Model Management New York City and Wilhelmina in Miami and London, continuing to carve out a remarkable career on the global stage.
A LOVE FOR JAMAICA
Zan’s deep-rooted pride in her Jamaican heritage took center stage when she became the face of Parisian fashion brand Tressé. The campaign, a breathtaking tribute to Jamaica, allowed her to reconnect with her roots in a truly meaningful way. Shot on the island’s picturesque shores, the collection—dubbed the “Jamaica Suitcase”—was described by Tressé as an “ode to Jamaica, the Jewel of the Caribbean, land of passion and shimmering colors.”
For Zan, the experience was more than just a fashion shoot; it was a celebration of her culture. “The shoot captured the beauty of Jamaica—our beaches, hills, and vibrant culture. It was an incredibly proud moment to showcase my heritage on such a global platform,” she shared.
Her love for Jamaica extends far beyond the camera lens. “I carry my heritage into every room I enter. Whether through my accent, my stories, or my perspective, I want people to know where I’m from and what it represents,” she said, reinforcing her mission to represent her homeland with pride.

THE DECISION TO PURSUE LAW
Zan’s interest in law began during her time as a junior mayor in Montego Bay. “I loved being in rooms where impactful decisions were made. It inspired me to consider law as a career,” she said. Currently a student at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, Zan is on a full-tuition scholarship and has set her sights on breaking barriers within the legal profession.
“Law school is demanding, but I’ve learned to lean on discipline and faith,” she said. “I’ve prayed through many challenging moments. There was one instance where I couldn’t see how I’d manage finals, modeling commitments, and work, but God provided a way.”
For Zan, studying law is about more than academic achievement. “I want to bring my authentic self to the legal field. From my headwraps to my bold style, I aim to challenge the norms and represent diversity at the highest levels.”
